The cell authentication is the most important and basic item in cell assays—it is used to confirm the identity and purity—there is no contamination by other cells. The STR method detects gene polymorphisms among different individuals/cells, and has the advantages of high sensitivity, data quantification, identification of intraspecific (inter-strain) contamination, and batch operation. It has been recognized as the most reliable authentication method for commonly used species cells and is widely used in the quality control of cell lines/strains and cell banks.
